An interesting thing happened late last night as I moved into day eight. I went back to the arrangement I had done for "Cincinnati" after working on other stuff for a while. I didn't think I had much to do in the way of clean up, but I figured I'd look for anything I might have missed and also just listen to it now that my ears had gotten away from it for a while. As I did, it occurred to me that I really also like the single guitar arrangement of it the way I'd originally written it. So much so that I kind of wanted to record it too. So... The original song's full title is "Cincinnati: Free Parking, A Romantic Evening, Sleeping In and Decent Coffee." I decided last night to split it up into two songs. One will be "Cincinnati Part One: Free Parking, A Romantic Evening," and the other will be "Cincinnati Part Two: Sleeping In and Decent Coffee." One is the orchestral arrangement I did last night, and one is just the guitar version of the same song.
So that means now there are 13 songs on the album. Which I guess means that in my statistics at the top of these posts, I now have to complete approximately 108% of the songs I set out to write. I didn't think of how the math would work if I started adding songs to the record while in progress. I had this all figured out that I was going to be super prepared and know exactly how many I was going to do from the outset. (For the record, I'm just going to adjust the total for 100% from here on out, so the stats will now reflect 13 songs instead of 12. Along those lines, I technically "wrote" a new song today by coming up with another arrangement. This is why I don't really like statistics. At least keeping track of coffee is easy.)
Anyhow, I didn't do much of anything else today. I did organize my stuff a little bit and figure out a few ways to speed up the recording process by using some of the other equipment I have around here, but now it's close to midnight, and I just put on some coffee for day nine.
