the toast of christmas past
When I was in high school, the local Kroger's started offering a service to take a Polaroid instant picture and duplicate it as a little one page holiday card. My friend Greg had an Instamatic camera and had the great idea to make a funny Christmas card for all of our friends.
We did this two years in a row. Somewhere I know I have copies of both cards, but I've no idea where they are and honestly hadn't thought of them in years until another friend of ours sent me a holiday email for Christmas this past year with a scan of one attached.
I can't remember if this was the first or the second one, but it features the two of us holding pieces of extremely burnt toast. The problem, as I recall, is that because of the flash, the camera did not capture the fact that the toast was on fire. We had soaked it with hairspray and lit it up for the picture, but the five or six inch flames disappeared in the print.
