the left hand excuse
used to be playing guitar
like an intention
the right hand excuse
well, there wasn't a good one
like, it's a mistake
you have now watched me
pull blood from the quick and winced
like the one who cares
the work will not come
(thought of "work" as feminine
but that shot meaning)
a bank of box fans
discovered me still sweating
like an extinct bird
