On the interstate
to the airport this morning
I saw your old car
The world is ugly
and still undeniably
old and unfair, still
Remembering plates
which, for the record, I don't,
and I still cannot
Numbers and letters,
colors and tones and buttons,
but mostly numbers
I know the years change,
and the unfairness remains
still, numbers don't lie
