Books on more subjects
thank God for poetry, for
the big plan to rhyme.

She's the tiny torch
deep in the library stacks
lighting up the words.

Diary entries
file themselves as head debris,
not marks on paper.

I was up all night
praying my little sister
would shake stomach flu.

A single cheese slice
was all I could think to want.
Then I threw it up.

He's grown now it seems
five years between 10 AM
and this, his lunch break.

Red plastic wagon
comes from the age between This
and the Age of Steel.
